We are proud of our students who have learned to share many aspects of care for Meher. Mark Nicoletti is a 5th grader at Hough Street School and he has generously donated money that will be used to buy uniform for Meher at her school. This was a thoughtful gesture from an 11 year old who demonstrates that he is aware of the needs of other children not as fortunate as him.

We are glad to honor their acts of kindness and involvement in our award winning project. So far almost $26,000 has been raised by students and families for Meher’s education and medical treatment.

Lucy, Martha and Rose Abrahamson will be the Marketing Directors at North Barrington School for developing ideas and marketing the Hough Street Chess Tournament. They have been active in supporting service at Chess Without Borders but they have made a commitment to organize their skills in helping raise funds for Meher who is their contemporary in age but lives on the other side of the world. Meher lives in the slums of Delhi, India and with the educational support from students like Lucy, Martha and Rose she has done exceedingly well in school. 100% of the proceeds from the Hough Street School Chess Tournament will go towards paying for Meher’s school.
The girls have responded generously with their donation of time and skills as the picture below shows them volunteering at the South Elgin Rehabilitation Center 2 years ago. All of them are part of the NBS chess club.
Lucy Abrahamson, 11 –   Loves to read, is involved with Girl Scouts, plays the cello, and is on a Trampoline Competitive Team.
Martha Abrahamson 9 –   Loves math, is a Girl Scout, and is on a competitive Gymnastics Team.
Rose Abrahamson 7 –   She loves reading and math, is involved with Girl Scouts,  and plays soccer and is learning gymnastics.
We are proud of our students who are learning that they can make a big difference for others through their volunteer work.
